Thumbnail Read Only Version
---------------------------
The read only version of Thumbnail is a cut down version of the main
Thumbnail application.
The read only version has been designed to be distributed with a collection
of thumbnails within it, allowing other people to view a thumbnail collection
without needing the full Thumbnail application.
To create a read only Thumbnail application complete with thumbnails there
are two methods which can be followed :
Method 1:
=========
1) Using the main (full) Thumbnail application create a 'Slave Thumbnail
Application' with the deisred thumbnails within it (this is explained in the
Thumbnail !Help file).
2) Then copy the read only Thumbnail application (as stored in this
directory) over the Slave Thumbnail Application directory, the slave
application will then be upgraded to a read only version.
Method 2:
=========
If you are likely to want to create read only thumbnail applications
frequently (and are not likely to need to create standard Slave Thumbnail
applications) you can get Thumbnail to create read only applications instead
of slave applications by opening the main Thumbnail application directory and
locating the directory called 'Dummy'. Then copy the contents of the read
only Thumbnail application directory into this Dummy directory.
From now all slave Thumbnail applications created by Thumbnail will actually
be read only Thumbnail applications.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE READ ONLY VERSION
==========================================
The read only version of Thumbnail is set up to run only if a full version
has not already been 'seen' by the filer. This means that is you have both a
read only version and a full version, double clicking on the read only
application will actually run the full version, but with the thumbnails
stored in the read only version as the currently selected set of thumbnails.
If you want to force the read only version to run there are two methods
available:
either: just before running the application type "Unset Thumbnail$Dir" at the
command line (to fool the application into thinking there isn't a full
version).
or: open the read only copies application directory and double click on the
file called '!ReadOnly' - this will run the read only application.
NOTE
====
The Read Only version does not have the facilities of the full version which
allow users to convert the files to other formats (via the Picture
Information window). The reason for this is that the Read Only version is
designed to be as small as possible, and adding this facility would make it
as large as the full version.
