  4. Thumbnail Read Only Version
  5. ---------------------------

  8. The read only version of Thumbnail is a cut down version of the main
  9. Thumbnail application.
  10.

  12. The read only version has been designed to be distributed with a collection
  13. of thumbnails within it, allowing other people to view a thumbnail collection
  14. without needing the full Thumbnail application.

  17. To create a read only Thumbnail application complete with thumbnails there
  18. are two methods which can be followed :

  21. Method 1:

  24. 1) Using the main (full) Thumbnail application create a 'Slave Thumbnail
  25. Application' with the deisred thumbnails within it (this is explained in the
  26. Thumbnail !Help file).

  28. 2) Then copy the read only Thumbnail application (as stored in this
  29. directory) over the Slave Thumbnail Application directory, the slave
  30. application will then be upgraded to a read only version.

  33. Method 2:
  34. =========

  36. If you are likely to want to create read only thumbnail applications
  37. frequently (and are not likely to need to create standard Slave Thumbnail
  38. applications) you can get Thumbnail to create read only applications instead
  39. of slave applications by opening the main Thumbnail application directory and
  40. locating the directory called 'Dummy'. Then copy the contents of the read
  41. only Thumbnail application directory into this Dummy directory.

  43. From now all slave Thumbnail applications created by Thumbnail will actually
  44. be read only Thumbnail applications.

  48. IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE READ ONLY VERSION

  51. The read only version of Thumbnail is set up to run only if a full version
  52. has not already been 'seen' by the filer. This means that is you have both a
  53. read only version and a full version, double clicking on the read only
  54. application will actually run the full version, but with the thumbnails
  55. stored in the read only version as the currently selected set of thumbnails.

  57. If you want to force the read only version to run there are two methods
  58. available:
  59.  
  60. either: just before running the application type "Unset Thumbnail$Dir" at the
  61. command line (to fool the application into thinking there isn't a full
  62. version).

  64. or: open the read only copies application directory and double click on the
  65. file called '!ReadOnly' - this will run the read only application.

  71. The Read Only version does not have the facilities of the full version which
  72. allow users to convert the files to other formats (via the Picture
  73. Information window). The reason for this is that the Read Only version is
  74. designed to be as small as possible, and adding this facility would make it
  75. as large as the full version.
